About Project

Murals is an immersive exhibition that uses 3D scanning and virtual production to place viewers inside war-torn sites across the Kyiv region, preserving Banksy’s murals painted on the ruins during his visit to Kyiv as an act of support for Ukraine and a response to Russian atrocities.

Premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, Murals has received international recognition, including Best Immersive Art and XR at the BFI London Film Festival, Best International Immersive at the Doc Edge Festival, a Cannes Lions Shortlist, Bronze Award at the Ciclope Festival, Bronze Cube at the ADC Awards, Webby Awards Nomination, multiple awards at the Collision Awards, and two nominations at the AICP Next Awards.

creative execution

The project was developed as a cinematic XR experience where historical reality and artistic intervention merged. High-precision 3D scanning captured the original mural sites, which were then reconstructed as digital environments in Unreal Engine. Procedural modeling, photoreal textures, and pre-rendered CG were combined to build a visceral narrative space. Projection and virtual production techniques allowed audiences to step inside Banksy’s work with cinematic immersion.
