Immersive Art & XR · 3D Scanning
Murals is a not-for-profit immersive experience that uses 3D scanning to place viewers face to face with the war devastation in Ukraine. It follows captures of Banksy’s artwork left on the rubble of people’s homes, schools and infrastructure across the Kyiv region.
Directed by Aggressive and produced in partnership with ATM Virtual, Pixel Race, Tigrelab and our team.
Murals premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and has since earned the Audience Award for Best Art and XR at the BFI London Film Festival and Best International Immersive at the Doc Edge Festival. Further recognitions include a Cannes Lions Shortlist, a Bronze Award at the Ciclope Festival, a Bronze Cube at the ADC Awards, a Webby Awards nomination, one Gold and two Silver awards at the Collision Awards, and two nominations at the AICP Next Awards.
The project was developed as a cinematic XR experience where historical reality and artistic intervention merged. High-precision 3D scanning captured the original mural sites, which were then reconstructed as digital environments in Unreal Engine. Procedural modeling, photoreal textures and pre-rendered CG were combined to build a visceral narrative space. Projection and virtual production techniques allowed audiences to step inside the artwork with cinematic immersion.
